Things to See and Do
TODI boasts one of Italy's finest medieval squares
UMBRIAN HILL TOWNS Tour the surrounding towns to enjoy great wine, food, shopping, art and nature.
FOOD AND WINE Food, glorious and fabulous Italian food. Umbria's truffles are practically on tap in the summer. The pizzas are thin and crisp and are baked in wood-fired ovens with a cornucopia of toppings. Vegetables are strictly seasonal. Grilled meat (lamb, beef and fowl) is cooked over wood fires. Bruschetta al pomodoro is a summer staple. Gelato from one of several local establishments can easily become a daily ritual. Either that or a pre-dinner Aperol spritz in the piazza. Or both. Wild boar ragu is served in Umbria all year. As are the divine wines from Umbrian vineyards, especially noteable are the reds from around Montefalco. Todi is pround of its very own white wine from the indigious grape: grecchetto. This is a crisp and dry white wine, perfect chilled on a hot summer night.
EVENTS Umbria hosts world-famous festivals such as Umbria Jazz in Perugia and The Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto. For chocoholics there is the international Eurochocolate Festival in Perugia. Not to miss is the Infiorata of Spello, where locals adorn the cobblestoned streets with murals made with flower petals. All well worth the price of admission. In Todi there are summer festivals, too, featuring hot air ballons in the skies above and dance and concerts on selected evenings in the cobblestoned piazza.
